The engine has a sophisticated orchestra of moving parts that need to be in the right place at the right time to generate drive power. If the engine is a moving parts orchestra, then the timing belt is the conductor. The timing belt is a durable component but should be inspected at major service intervals as recommended in the owner’s booklet. The tension might need to be adjusted to keep the belt working properly. Damaged belts will also require replacement service if they lose integrity.

Warning Signs of Timing Belt Trouble

Timing belt problems usually surface in the engine’s performance and driving comfort. The best response to any of the warning signs of timing belt trouble is to get corrective service as soon as possible because a broken timing belt while driving ends with internal parts crashing into each other. • Engine will not start

Timing Belt Tension Inspection & Adjustment

Timing belts should be at the right tension but the tension can move out of specifications. Timing belts should be inspected and have the tension adjusted as needed to protect engine performance and prevent excessive wear and tear.
