Kia makes a number of the best cars and SUVs on the roads today. So many you may not be sure which one is right for you. If you’ve narrowed it down to one of the Kia SUVs but don’t know which will work best for your vehicle needs, the best way to determine this is to compare each one side by side. This will give you a better understanding of the two and allow you to determine which vehicle checks off all your SUV boxes. Two of the most discussed SUVs from Kia are the Seltos and Telluride. So, before you decide on one or the other, here is a direct Kia Seltos vs Kia Telluride comparison to help uncover what features the vehicles share, and what features set the two apart.

Possible Cost of the Seltos

The Kia Seltos is the latest addition to the Kia SUV family. As the model has not yet been released in the United States (although it hit markets in other pockets of the world earlier, it will make the official release in the U.S. in early 2020 as a 2021 model), most of the specs and other specifics of the SUV are known. It is important, though, to take the price points with a grain of sand. Kia has not officially announced the price points for the different 2021 Seltos trims, so instead, the expected numbers are based on what it is selling for around the world. Due to this, the price may vary slightly.

Currently, the base trim package for the 2021 Seltos has an estimated MSRP of $22,000. There are four trims for this, including the S, the EX, and the SX. The top-trim SX is expected to have an initial MSRP of $29,000.

The Kia Telluride is a larger SUV, designed to compete with many of the large 8-seat SUVs on the market today. However, the price point for the 2020 Telluride is far less than most other manufacturers, with a starting MSRP of $31,690. The top trim package is also the SX and starts with an MSRP of $41,490. Even with this lower price point than the competitors, the Telluride received Motortrend’s SUV of the Year award for 2020.

Smaller vs Larger

These two SUVs are not designed for the same consumer. The smaller 2021 Seltos is constructed to seat up to five passengers. However, it does come packed with several safety and technology upgrades, which helps elevate SUV over others on the market. The larger 2020 Kia Telluride is considered a mid-size SUV, yet it does have seating up to 8, so it can compete seating-wise with just about any SUV currently sold. Ultimately you will need to decide what kind of passenger room you need.

Engine Performance

The Seltos is expected to include two engine offerings, including a 2.0L 4-cylinder engine that produces 147 horsepower and 132 lb-ft of torque. The upgraded 1.6L Turbo 4-cylinder engine increases the horsepower to 175 to give it a bit more pep in its acceleration.

As for the 2020 Kia Telluride, you have a single-engine option, regardless of the trim you decide to go with. This is a 3.8L V6. The V6 can produce 291 horsepower and 262 lb-ft of torque. This does give you a performance advantage over what you would find in the 2021 Kia Seltos. It also helps with towing numbers. Official towing numbers have not yet been released for the Seltos, although with the smaller I4 engine, you can expect to max out around 1,500 pounds (or less). With the Telluride, you can tow up to 5,000 pounds. So, if you’re looking for an SUV that’s built to tow a camper or take your small boat to the lake, the Telluride is the way to go.

Entertainment

The Kia Seltos is bringing one of the largest available touchscreens on the market into the small SUV. At 10.25-inches, you’ll be hard-pressed to find any other small SUV that provides you with this kind of feature. It also has an upgraded 8-speaker Bose sound system, for when you want to take your music enjoyment to new heights. The SUV comes packed with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto for streaming your favorite applications directly from your mobile device into the SUV. For a complete listing of all 2021 Seltos features, make sure to check back soon. Kia will announce all the features to be found on the vehicle (available starting in February 2020) soon.

The 2020 Telluride comes standard with an 8-inch touchscreen display and a built-in rear camera. However, much like the Seltos, you do have the option to upgrade and include a 10.25-inch touchscreen. The standard audio system is a 6-speaker setup, although if you want to upgrade with one of the upper-trims you will receive a 10-speaker premium audio system by Harman Kardon, plus a separate subwoofer. The SUV also comes with a 110V power inverter and three 12V power outlets.

Driver Assist Technology

Both the Seltos and the Telluride come packed with driver-assist technology. There is a safe exit assist feature, which will detect vehicles around you to determine if it is safe to merge or change lanes. It can also pick up the speed of approaching vehicles so you can wait for the car speeding up to pass or accelerate yourself to merge lanes.

The vehicles also include blind-spot collision avoidance assist for both the rear and forward areas of the vehicle. This will help detect objects, people, and vehicles that might be in your blind spots. This is done with the aid of radar. The vehicles offer highway driving assist, which helps your vehicle adjust cruising speed to match not only the vehicle detected ahead of you but also the changing speed limits. All of this is designed to help keep you and everyone inside your vehicle safe, no matter if you’re driving the Seltos or the Telluride.
