The 2020 Kia Seltos May Be Right Around The Corner
In recent years Kia has looked to expand its footprint in the United States with several new SUVs and crossover vehicles. At your local Kia dealership locations, you’ll find a number of these models. The most recent of these is the 2020 Kia Seltos. This is an all-new design is likely making its way to the United States. Packed with tech upgrades and model improvements over other Kia SUVs, if you’re looking for a sporty, upscale SUV, you’ll want to stop by Raceway Kia when it’s released to discover exactly what this new SUV can do for you.
What Is the 2020 Kia Seltos?
The Seltos took its name from Celtos, the son of Hercules. Kia wanted to make a hip, tech-packed vehicle for the younger crowd and yet still maintain many of the features found in classical SUVs. In this way, it is the younger, hipper SUV for a new audience (thus the reason Kia named it after the son of one of the most known figures in Greek mythology).
The Kia Seltos was the very first vehicle the company sold in India. Kia Motors wanted to make a big splash in the second largest populated market in the world and decided to do so with the Seltos. It is now coming to the United States and most other major world markets by the end of 2019 (and some markets, such as Mexico, in early 2020).
The Kia Seltos is split into two main trim lines. There is the Seltos GT, which is all about performance. Then there is the Seltos Tech line, which is designed more specifically for the tech enthusiast. Now, each trim line has elements of the other, so you don’t need to give up tech if you want performance, but in this way, it offers a unique take for drivers who are more interested in packing their vehicle with the latest internal technology.
Now, it is important to point out that the exact features for the U.S. version are still under wraps. The company has released slightly different versions of the Seltos in both India and South Korea, so it is necessary to wait and see for the exact spec numbers and features that will be found in the North American version. Due to this, it is important to go over the different versions found in the current markets. This will help paint a picture for what to expect when it hits the United States (the U.S. has stricter fuel and emission regulations than India, which will likely impact some of the engine, safety, and fuel economy numbers).
Interior Tech Features
While some of what will be found under the hood is still a bit up in the air (more will come out toward the end of the year), what is found on the interior of the vehicle will likely not change all that much from what is currently in the Indian and South Korean designs.
For starters, the vehicle has a 10.15-inch touchscreen that has split-screen capabilities, which is nice as you can have the GPS navigation running on the top portion of the screen and a music app running on the bottom half. This will reduce the amount of switching between applications while driving, thus keeping your eyes on the road. There is also a 7-inch display that is fully configurable, allowing you to place the information on the screen you want to see while driving. You can also upgrade to a higher trim package to include an additional 8-inch HUD (head-up display).
Within the SUV, you have the option to include a full 360-degree camera system, which is rare on smaller, compact-SUVs.
Of course, all of this tech is all for not if you’re not able to enjoy your favorite music while on the road or stuck in traffic. That is why Kia has packed in an 8-speaker Bose sound system, which instantly makes it one of the best sounding sound systems in the price range. You’ll also be able to take advantage of what Kia is calling the Sound Mood Lighting system, which will allow the interior lighting to change right along with the music. After all, music is more than a sense to be enjoyed by your ears. It should be enjoyed by your eyes as well. The lighting system features eight colors and six themes built into 3D paneling.
Kia has not yet released information on whether the North American version will include a WiFi hotspot within the vehicle.
What Might Come Under The Hood?
To get a better understanding of what might be found under the hood of the 2020 Kia Seltos, you’ll need to look at what is available in other regions around the world where the Kia is currently available and also similar sized Kias in the U.S market (such as the Kia Soul). There are several engine offerings currently available, including a 1.6L turbocharged engine that produces 175 horsepower. There is also a 2.0L 147 horsepower engine and a 1.6L diesel engine. Realistically the 1.6L turbo engine is the most likely to hit North America; the exact engine specifications will come out in the coming months.
Wait And See On Several Features
There are a few features that are simply not known yet for what to expect in the North America release. Kia Motors went into detail about its 360-degree camera system to ensure the highest level of blind-spot monitoring as well as rear parking sensors. However, Kia has not yet said anything about what kind of airbag configuration will be included in North America. North America has far more strict safety requirements than what is found in India, so you can be assured it will have more airbags (most of the India trim packages only have airbags for the front passengers).
Additionally, the exact drivetrains are not yet known. The vehicle will more than likely come standard with a front wheel-drive design, as is the case with most other Kias sold. It is not yet known whether Kia Motors will release an all wheel-drive design for North America. The 2020 Kia Soul, which the Seltos is most inline with in terms of size (although it will be slightly larger) is not available with an AWD drivetrain in the United States, nor is the Kia Niro, so this is one element of the Kia Seltos. You’ll want to keep your ear to the ground for further word from Kia Motors as to exactly what it plans on doing with its release in the United States.
