A red 2020 Kia Sportage is driving on a treelined road after leaving a Kia dealership location near Jersey City, NJ.

At Raceway Kia, we are proud to sport the Kia brand and are excited to see how far automotive technology as come. As one of the top Kia dealership locations near Jersey City, we experience plenty of these game-changing automotive features first hand. We are well worth the drive from Jersey City and have a great selection of new, used, and certified pre-owned models on our lot.

We’ve learned the driving experience is changing, not just because we sell cars but because we love cars. What used to be all nuts, bolts, and hardware has become an intuitive experience that thinks ahead and even removes a few aspects of driving. While we’re still ways out from having widespread self-driving cars – cars nowadays are making more and more things automatic and are filled with smart software. The Kia brand resides at the forefront of this revolution, not only offering drivers plenty of active features that do some of the driving for them, but also including a wide range of infotainment and accessibility features that make for a truly remarkable driving experience.

With 2020 models hitting the road, there are a lot of new and innovative features that are drastically shifting what we should be able to expect out of a great car. To give you an idea of what we mean, we’ve put together a shortlist of some of our favorite automotive features found across Kia models. When you’re ready for your new Kia, take the chance and drive beyond Jersey City to our great dealership location in Freehold, New Jersey, we’re waiting to talk to you about new features and models.

Apple CarPlay and Android Auto Compatibility

Infotainment in the past was fairly spartan. In the early days, it was a luxury just to have an AM/FM radio in your car. It’s easy to see that things have drastically changed when examining today’s models. Sure, you can still get a radio in your 2020 Kia, but chances are you’ll also be given the option of a radio powered by satellite rather than radio towers.

Another innovation in infotainment tech is Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility. This compatibility feature allows drivers to access their smartphone from their car’s infotainment screen seamlessly. Drivers can change navigation, browse through music, and access digital assistants all without looking down at their phones.

While a great feature in terms of ease, it also ensures greater driver awareness. Instead of fumbling with your phone to change a song, or adjust navigations settings, you can do it all from your infotainment screen.

Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist with Pedestrian Detection

Auto technology has advanced to the point of potentially helping drivers avoid accidents altogether. One feature that makes this fact possible is forward collision-avoidance assist with pedestrian detection.

Found on a number of Kia models, this feature is intentionally designed to detect when a forward collision is potentially imminent and will apply the brakes accordingly. It is important to note that this feature is far from perfect and won’t stop the car in every scenario, but this extra level of protection does provide an incredible sense of driver peace of mind. On top of that, the pedestrian detection feature helps protect not just drivers and passengers but those around the vehicle as well.

Remote Access

The age of the classic metal key is fading away. There once was a time where physical hardware was ingrained into everything that made a car, a car; that isn’t the case any longer. In some 2020 Kia models, drivers will find remote door unlock and lock function. This incredible tech feature allows you to access your vehicle seamlessly using the Kia Access app from your smartphone.

This same app allows you to control the interior temperature of your vehicle remotely. No longer is control of your vehicle relegated to simply your center console. This intuitive smartphone app also allows drivers to find their car should they lose it in a parking lot. This extension of accessibility is changing not just how we drive, but how we interact with our vehicles, in a big way.

Wireless Charging Pads

Smartphones have become a huge part of our lives, and as such, keeping them charged is a high priority. Kia has recognized this and includes the option of a wireless charging station in some of its 2020 models.

Instead of fumbling around with wires and plug-ins, this wireless charging pad can bring your battery up to full with simplistic ease. It is important to keep in mind that this feature only works on phones that are designed with wireless charging; however, as technology advances, more and more smartphones are including it as a basic feature.

Blind Spot Collision Warnings

Whether you commute into the heart of Manhattan, or stay around town, having intuitive active smart features is a must. There are a wide variety of active safety features that Kia has included in their 2020 models, and one of them is their blind spot collision warning system. This is an incredible safety feature that uses radar-based detection to sense the flow of traffic around you. The system will then warn you of objects or vehicles passing through a blind-spot in your vehicle. This system may not prevent collisions directly, but it goes a long way in helping drivers avoid them.

Rear Cross-Traffic Collision Warnings

Navigating parking lots can be a hassle, no matter the size of your car. In fact, sometimes, trying to drive through a parking lot can end up in some pretty serious collisions. Fortunately, Kia has developed a system to help protect drivers from this scenario. Thanks to rear cross-traffic collision warnings, drivers can pass in and out of parking lots with far greater peace of mind.

This system, which is available on some Kia models, surveys the back end of your vehicle, sensing specifically for moving objects that pass outside of your field of view. If a car or pedestrian passes within the range of this sensor, it’ll alert you, and hopefully, give you the chance to stop your vehicle before making a collision.

Kia’s Smart Cruise System with Stop and Go

Embarking on long drives to locations like the Poconos or the Jersey Shore can be quite draining. Fortunately, cars of the past included cruise control as a function that would allow you to take our feet off the pedals, and relax a little.

A computer drawn model showing how smart cruise works is shown.

Although the original cruise control feature was far from a form of auto-pilot, if traffic slowed or sped up, you’d have to adjust your speed accordingly. That said, in some 2020 Kia models, this form of cruise control is comparatively outdated. Thanks to Kia’s Smart Cruise System, your Kia brand vehicle can adjust its own speed automatically.

How does this futuristic safety feature work? Well, Kia’s Smart Cruise System with Stop and Go utilizes a series of cameras and sensors to detect the flow of traffic and maintain a safe distance from the car in front of you. This system is so incredible that it can even bring you to a complete stop. This feature pushes the original cruise control system into the realm of automated driving. While we still have a long way to go in that regard, Kia’s Smart Cruise System with Stop and Go is already quite impressive.
